Rajamundry ( Andhra Pradesh , South India)
Rajmundry, located about 581 kms from Chennai on the main line, is historically, religiously and culturally prominent place of Andhra Pradesh. Tour of Andhra without visiting Rajmundry remains incomplete. Rajmundry holds special prominence in Andhra Pradesh tourism. The town of Rajmundry is a part of East Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh.
The town is the gateway to northern Andhra Pradesh. A prosperous town on the banks of river Godavari, Rajmundry has gained importance due to the famous bathing ghats and the Pushkaram festival which takes place once in 12 years. It was also the ancient capital of Raja Rajanarendra and the ruins of palace at this place. On the banks of the river is the famous Kotilingaeshwara and Markandeya temples which are devout spots.
