Shimla (Himachal Pradesh, Himalayan State)
Shimla, situated 6890 feet above the sea level, is a marvellous hill station of India spread over 12 kms in length. Not only in India but also in the whole world, it is one of the most favourite tourist places due to its unique natural beauty with lush green fields and snow-clad peaks.
The Mall Road : a favourite rendezvous for tourists, where every tourist of Shimla invariably walks down on this road. The main promenade that runs down along the top of the ridge having old colonies, shops and restaurants spread through it. At the top end of the Mall is Scandal Point which provides a bird eye view of the town and valley.
Gaiety Theatre : is considered as one of the oldest theatre of the world. This is a platform for the performances of latest Indian dramatics. Tourists get fascinated after watching those dramatic creations.
Viceregal Lodge : one of the marvellous historical monuments, refreshes the memories of British rule. Here lies one unique museum of historical collections.
Jakhoo Hill : is the highest peak of Shimla. The toil of the steep climbing turns into a wonderful experience after observing the superb view of the town and surroundings. There is an old Hanuman Temple on the top. NALDEHRA (23 kms from Shimla and 3200 metres above sea level) is having a beautiful golf field with nine ball holes. It is world famous for its natural beauty.
Kufri : (16 kms from Shimla and 2622 metre above the sea level) is famous for snow sports, yak riding and breeding centre of musk deer too. Nearby Mahasu peak offers fabulous mountain and valley views.
Chail : located 45 kms away from Shimla, was built by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala who was insulted and banished from Shimla for his romance with the Commander in Chief's daughter. Later, this Maharaja built his own "summer capital" at the little village of Chail.Situated at a height of 2250 metre from sea level and surrounded by dense Deodar trees, Chail is famous for the highest elevated cricket ground in the world. Palace Hotel, Army Public School, wild life sanctuary, Sikh Gurudwara etc. are also worth watching.
