Bundela Rajput king Rudra Pratap Singh established his capital in Orchha in 1531. Situated on the bank of river Betwa, Orchha is prominent for painting style Bundel Gharana, wall paintings, artistic "chatris (cenotaphs/ canopies) and temples. Jahangir Palace was built by kingBir Singh Deo in 17th century to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jahangir. The canopies of the artistic Palace are extremely elegant.
Raja Mahal was built by Madhukar Shah. Various religious stories have been painted in the form of attractive wall paintings in fast colours in the Palace.
Raja Ram Temple has been converted into temple from a Palace. It is the only temple in India where Lord Ram is worshipped as a king, not as a god.
Laxmi Narayan Temple is the place where spiritual and religious subjects have been depicted elegantly with different colours in Orchha style wall paintings.
Phool Bagh :with spectacular gardens and charming fountains, was the summer residence of Orchha kings.
