Jaisalmer ( Rajasthan, North India )
Situated in the western part of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer is known as Suwarn Nagari - Golden City of Rajasthan. The beautiful heaps of golden sand surround this place and it appears that it has landedin a yellow fairy-eaud. This city had been set up by Rawal Jaisal of Yadava's reign in 1156AD on Trikuta hills. Jharokhas of havelis and wooden carvings of windows and mehrabs are attractive and worth seeing. Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Fort) covered with golden colour, was founded by Rawal Jaisal on Trikuta hills. Situated at the height of 30 metre above the surface, this ancient and historic Fort has 99 burjs and 4 entrances. There are many beautiful havelis along with 8 Jain temples, which were built in between 12th to 15th centuries, located inside the fort. Painting and architecture of Vilas Mahal, Rang Mahal, Raj Vilas and Moti Mahal of this fort is marvellous.
Gadsisar Lake : is an ideal picnic spot. There are many temples and boating facility is also available.
Badal Mahal 200 years old master piece of high degree workmanship, is situated at Amar Sagar Pol. Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli, built in 1855 AD and situated at Gandhi Chowk, possess high quality architecture. There are many paintings done on the walls inside this haveli.
Patwon Ki Haveli : built in 1805, is the best haveli of the city which depicts the marvellous sculpture of Rajputana art. It is a good example of five-floor engraved architecture of Haveli.
Desert National Park : (40 kms from Jaisalmer) is a good example of natural vegetation and its fauna in the background of desert areas covered with sandy rows. There are Chinkaras, Black Deer, Desert Fox, wolf, desert cat, titar, chakor,Sohan Bird, lizards, Viper, caret and many wildlife exist in this park. Sudhashree Forest Post (75 kms) is the perfect place for watching wildlife.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli : near to the gate of Fort, is a five-floor tall building. Salim Singh, Diwan of Maharaja Gaj Singh, got built this haveli 200 years ago. The haveli was constructed rigidly at the base and open from all sides above. There are open "gokharas" outside on the fifth floor. The blue pillar on its sloping roof is fabulous.
