Jodhpur ( Rajasthan, North India )
Situated at north western of Rajasthan, Jodhpur was an old capital of Royal Marwar. Raja Rao Jodha founded this city in 1549. It had been enlisted as an important trade centre of country during 16th century. Jodhpur is also called Blue City of Rajasthan. Jodhpur, being on ancient and medieval trade route and previous capital of Royal Marwar, has many ups and downs. The impressions of rich past, valour and flourishing trade can be seen in the existing monuments and thumping market. Mehrangarh Fort : City is considered as one of the best forts of India which has seven gates. Situated at a height of 121 metre on the hill, this is an indomitable fort and proclaimed to be unmatched one in the North India in view of defense. Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal and Man Mahal located in this fort are the superior samples of sculpture. Government Museum situated at Mehrangarh Fort contains musical instruments, wardrobes, colourful turbans, furtnitures, arms and ammunition etc.
Ummed Bhawan Palace (Chittar Palace): was built by Maharaja Ummed Singh during 1929 - 43. Half portion of this palace is opened for the tourists and the rest portion is owned by Taj hotel chain.
Jaswant Thada Memorial : is a monument of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II and other rulers. This is made up of white marbles famous as "Taj Mahal of Rajasthan". Paintings of the rulers of Marwar are displayed inside.
Balsamand Lake and Gardens: is supposed to be the oldest artificial and most beautiful lake of Rajasthan. Marvellous Hawa Mahal and garden are built on its embankment.
Kailana Lake: It is a beautiful artificial lake having a good suset point, where one can enjoy lovely scenes of drowning sun in dusk.
Mandore: ( 8 kms from Jodhpur) was ancient capital of Marwar. Cenotaphs of rulers of Jodhpur were built here along with some paintings of Hindu gods and goddesses. The whole complex is decorated with a beautiful garden. Mandore Fort, Deval, Saals of Deity, Janana garden, Palace and museum situated here are worth seeing.
