Khimsar ( Rajasthan, North India )
Khimsar (100 kms from Jodhpur) is now nothing but a small village town with a mammoth and lavish Khimsar Fort ( presently turned into a palatial hotel) standing like an oasis in desert. Any Rajasthan tour or India tour intending to provide first hand village- life- feel, Khimsar can be the best suitable Indian tourist destination. The Khimsar Fort turned into a luxury heritage hotel gives one insight into the regal life style. The construction of the fort was initiated in 1523 but the royal family (family of Thakurs) moved in to the fort only during the 18th century after ladies wing was constructed. Thakur Onkar Singh, the present occupant of the fort, built a regal wing for himself in 1940s. The pride of Khimsar today is still that 450 years old fort which is home to the 18th, 19th, and 20th generations of the Khimsar thakurs.
