Surrounded by dense forests, in the middle of famous Shivalik mountain ranges, 709 meter above sea level and spread over 3106 sq. km, this valley is considered as the most beautiful visiting spot on semi-hills of India. It is said that in ancient times Dronacharya, the tutor of Kaurvas and Pandavas built an ashram over here in village Dwara and performed penance. Distinguished as Drona's Ashram, this place, by passage of time, came to be known as Doon. Fascinating scenic beauty of this place thrills tourists. Dehradun is also famous as a military city.
Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai: In the memory of Ram Rai, the elder son of Sikh Guru Har Rai, an audience hall had been built here. Every year, on the 5th day of Holi, a flag-hoisting ceremony is held here. In the interior part of this Gurudwara, the paintings, wall-paintings and architecture is incomparable.

Tapkeshwar Temple is a glorious temple of God Shiva. Due to continuous falling of water drops on Shivling from top of the hill, it acquired the name of Tapkeswar. It is said that some time in the past, milk drops used to fall on Shivling.
Tapovan is related with Laxman, brother of Lord Ram. As per conviction, after slaying Ravana, Laxman performed penance here. According to description in puranas, this place had been the penance site for saints and monks.
Sahastradhara is prominent for its cool and pleasing Sulphur falls. Due to continuous flow of hundreds of water streams from the roof of mountain caves, this place got its name Sahastradhara. It is believed that taking bath here, cures skin diseases.
To reach Dehradun
The distance between Delhi and Dehradun is 250 kms. It is well connected by air, train and road. There are several flights of different airlines like Jet Airways, Kingfisher ply on this route and take 1 hour to reach from Delhi to Dehradun. Trains like Mussorie Express, Shatabdi Express, Doon Express run on daily basis between these two destinations. The trains take 7 to 10 hours to reach Dehradun. Regular buses and taxis also move daily and at regular intervals to and fro between Delhi and Dehradun. It takes 6 hours by road to reach Dehradun.
