Kedarnath is one of 12 Jyotirlingas. It is situated at Garhwal in Himalaya. Kedarnath pilgrim place is located 3581m above sea level.
Kedarnath Templewas built in 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya. The present temple is situated near ancient Pandava Temple. On the temple walls life- like pictures of gods and mythological stories have been carved out of hill rocks.
Shankaracharya Samadhi : Behind Kedarnath Temple, shrine of Adi Shankaracharya is situated. It is said that after establishing Char Dham in india, Adi Shankaracharya took "Samadhi" at the early age of just 32 years.
Vasuki Tal is worth seeing enchanting lake, at a height of 4135m.
Gauri Kund : Hot water pond and Gauri Devi temple are the main attractions here. Saying goes that birth of Mata Parvati took place here. For Kedarnath journey, the motorable route is available up to this place only.
Panchkedar : In Garhwal Himalaya, there are five main temples of Lord Shiva- Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madmaheshwar and Kalpeshwar. According to Puranas, Lord Shiva is worshipped in Kedarnath as Shivling, in Tungnath as arms, in Rudranath as mouth, in Madmaheshwar as navel and in Kalpeshwar in the from of matted hair.
