Agra is crowned with the glory of the unparalleled Taj Mahal. The splendour of the mausoleums, the fort and the palaces, is a vivid reminder of the opulence of the Mughal empire, of which Agra was the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries. The nearness of the Lord Krishna's land, the Brij Bhoomi-Mathura & Vrindavan, certainly doubles Agra's importance and attraction. The city is also famous for its carpets, gold thread embroidery and leather articles.

  • Taj Mahal

    Taj Mahal Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaj Mahal. From laying down its foundation stone in the year 1631, it took 21 years in completion and it was completed in the year 1652. Taj Mahal is included in the seven wonders of the world. The main edifice is surrounded by rampart of red stones, having three colossal gates. On its western side, one beautiful Mosque is situated. The garden, decorated with Farsi designed fountains, enhances manifolds the beauty of this magnifiscent edifice shining with milky white marble.

    Erected on the four corners of the huge platform, the tall fabulous towers give it a heavenly look. Under the huge dome in the middle, two memorials in the shape of grave have been built. The beauty of the Taj Mahal gives wonderful and glorious appearance at the full moon nights and especially on Sharad Purnimas, the glittering beauty arise special attractions among the tourists

  • Agra Fort

    The Agra Fort built by Emperor Akbar during the year 1565 - 73, is associated with the memories of Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan. Within the fort are a number of exquisite buildings, including the Moti Masjid, Diwan-E-Aam,, Diwan-E- Khas, Shish Mahal and Musamman Burj, where Emperor Shah Jahan had spent 8 years in the exile looking towards Taj Mahal and died in imprisonment.

  • Sikandara

    Sikandara, the mausoleum of Akbar, represents his philosophy and secular outlook, combining the best of Hindu and Islamic architecturesin a superlative fusion. A number of places are worth seening in Agra which include Baby Taj ( Tomb of Itmad-ud-daula), Chini-ka-Roza, Rambagh, Mariam's Tomb, Akbari Church, Jama Masjid, Martyr's Memorial and a number of Hindu, Jain and Sikh Temples (Gurudwaras).

  • Taj Festival

    Taj Festival Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department organizes a ten days "Taj Festival" every year in February. But due to environmental reasons and its untoward impact on the beauty of Taj Mahal, the festival is not held in Taj premises and it is being organized at Shilpgram, situated nearby. The festival consists of the classical and folk dances, songs, poetry, ghazals etc. The elephant and camel rides are the added attractions.
