The Academy of Fine Arts was established in 1933 AD by Ranu Mukherjee. Its collections include contemporary Indian art, miniature paintings, Indian textiles, weapons and sculptures. The Rabindra Gallery, opened in 1962 AD, contains original paintings, manuscripts and personal belongings of the Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore.
The Birla Academy of Art & Culture was established in 1966 by the Birla family. Birlas are business tycoons of India and keep doing social services as well. Originally named the 'School of Industrial Art', the Government College of Art & Crafts was founded in 1884 AD. The college exults acclaim with a gallery of its own, named after the legendary poet and artist, Rabindranath Tagore, who was one a Vice Principal of the institution.
